15 Nuggets on MENTORSHIP (Leadership Wisdom)
Tuesday, November 22, 2016
There
has never been a greater time in our generation where the need for Mentorship
was most important. I am reading a book called ‘Leadership Wisdom’ by my good
friend Simbarashe Nyamadzawo in which he writes;
“Mentorship is
a personal development in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person
helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person.”
I
asked for his permission to share with you 15 small nuggets on Mentorship that
he shares in this mind blowing, small 43 paged book that has absolutely changed
my life this November.
Pearls
on Mentorship
~ 1 ~
The shortest
way to greatness
is to sit at
the feet of great people and allow them to teach you and instruct you.
~
2 ~
Mentorship
will help accelerate the manifestation of the greatness that has been deposited
in you by God.
~
3 ~
By
providing you with a model, advice and counsel to follow, a mentor will help
you to avoid making the same mistakes they made and succumbing to the same
struggles that they faced along the way.
~
4 ~
It
is hard to improve when you have no one but yourself to follow. (Dr John
Maxwell)
~
5 ~
Pay
whatever price to follow your mentor. It is worth it. (Ruth and Naomi)
~
6 ~
Let
your destiny be a guide when choosing a mentor. Do not submit to someone simply
because they are the person of the moment or famous but rather submit to
someone because he or she has something you need for your destiny.
~
7 ~
Mentorship
is a privilege and therefore should be treated as such because a mentor will
introduce you to his or her network of interaction. He or she knows more great
people than you do.
~
8 ~
A
mentor will help you discover and maximise your potential
~
9 ~
Motivation
can help you find what you are ‘capable’ of doing and tell you you can do it.
Mentorship however helps you find what you cannot do and will tell you you can
do it!
~
10 ~
Your
friends are more concerned with your pleasure and current affairs. Your mentor
is concerned about your destiny and future.
~
11 ~
You
must learn to invest in the literature (books/CD) of your mentor. Whatever they
have spent years researching, learning and experiencing; you get to learn in
the comfort of your own home. A transference and impartation begins to take
place as you listen.
~
12 ~
Your
mentor does not know everything, but they do know something that will transform
your life, therefore value and treasure what they say by keeping records.
~
13 ~
Seeking
mentorship is a demonstration of humility
~
14 ~
Your
mentor is not your ceiling but your launch. Do not strive to be exactly like
him that’s identity crisis fuelled by mediocrity because you have the privilege
and obligation to exercise your uniqueness.
~
15 ~
There
is no space for lone rangers in the success zone.
